UPDATE AUG. 15, 2019 – The room block at both the Four Seasons Resort Whistler and the Fairmont Chateau Whistler are both closed. There is room availability at the Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside, a short walk to the Upper Village. For reservations call 604-905-2999, however there is no CLR room block.

Eric Akelaitis, Chair of CLR’s Board of Directors, is pleased to announce that on April 8, 2019, Ken McCormack will join the Construction Labour Relations Association of BC as President and CEO, replacing Clyde Scollan, who will be retiring this September.
Ken McCormack most recently provided services as President and CEO of the Automotive Retailers Association (ARA of BC). A strategic professional and seasoned executive leader with more than 25 years of management experience at the highest levels, Ken has worked in the government, consulting, agriculture and automotive sectors, representing associations similar in size and scope to CLR.
A strategic professional, Ken will work with the Board and staff to establish a vision and develop sound strategies to address the future needs and expectations of CLR and its membership. Opportunities will be explored both within the organization and the industry with a view to turning those opportunities into advantages for CLR members. Among other things, Ken strives to inspire people and teams, to form strong relationships and partnerships, to be a credible voice in decision making, to advance the needs of CLR and its membership, and to effectively support the Board of Directors.
In addition to a degree in Economics from the University of Alberta, Ken has invested further in his own passion of being an effective negotiator and mediator through advanced training and education from the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society (the equivalent of the BC Justice Institute). After announcing that he was leaving his position with the Automotive Retailers Association (ARA of BC) to assume his new role with CLR, he was asked to remain on the Board of Directors of the foundation started by ARA under Ken’s leadership to offer scholarships and bursary awards to people entering into automotive careers. That invitation is a testament to the respect and credibility Ken has earned from his employer and peers.
Ken is excited for the opportunity to bring his experience and dedication to bear on the needs of CLR and its members, and to be working with the CLR staff, Board and partners in growing the value and engagement of the unionized construction sector in BC. He sees his new role as President and CEO as a great challenge and opportunity to apply his experience and knowledge to advance the needs of the Association and its membership.
The Executive Committee and the Board are confident Ken McCormack has the skills, experience, knowledge and keen interest and enthusiasm to quickly learn about our industry and our Association, and to help guide us to the next level. We hope you will join us in welcoming Ken when he comes on board April 8, 2019.
The Board would also like to take this time to thank Clyde Scollan, the current President and CEO for his 30 years of service and dedication to the Association. Clyde and Ken will be working together to ensure a smooth and seamless transition as Ken assumes leadership.

CLR’s 49th AGM was held at the Penticton Lakeside Resort & Conference Center in Penticton, BC, September 14-15, 2018. From all accounts it was a great success.
From the Friday information sessions, touching on Aboriginal Reconciliation, Workforce Development and Mental Health & Substance Use, to dancing the night away to the Ten Souljers party band.
Guests enjoyed the Saturday golfing, kayaking, cycling the Kettle Valley Railway and the always popular wine tours. The event ended with a Southern BBQ and a night of yard and indoor games.
We are pleased to welcome our newest Board members, Shawn Boyd of Houle Electric Ltd. and Troy Halverson of Done Right Painting and Sandblasting Ltd.

On March 1st, 2018 2 new talents joined the Association. Please help us welcome the following new staff:
Steve Clark, Director, Labour Relations
Mr. Clark will be assuming responsibility for the Industrial/Mechanical contracts, currently assigned to Clyde Scollan and Mike Zaine. With over 20 years of LR/HR and general management experience, Mr. Clark has negotiated agreements in both the private and public sector, in industries such as hazardous materials abatement, demolition, consumer packaged goods and waste management. He is a graduate of the University of Victoria and holds the Certified Professional in Human Resources designation.
Chris Mydske, Director, Labour Relations
Chris comes to CLR with an extensive background in Labour Relations. He spent the last 11 years working for Loblaws in multiple, progressively senior Labour Relations roles. Over his tenure with Loblaws he has developed extensive experience in Collective Bargaining, representing the Employer in numerous sets of negotiations with multiple unions in the retail industry. Chris graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UBC in 2003. He received a Diploma in Human Resource Management from BC in 2006 before beginning his career in Labour Relations.
