BC Infrastructure Benefits (BCIB)
BCIB employs skilled trades workers on some of BC’s largest public projects. Our role is to supply skilled workers to these projects and help expand the province’s labour pool. Through the Priority Hiring of underrepresented workers, we open doors. Through culture change training, we keep people in the sector. Through training and apprenticeship partnerships, we help workers progress in their careers. We work with contractors, unions, project owners, and training organizations to pave the way to good-paying, career-building jobs, and a stronger economy for all British Columbians.

Cowichan District Hospital Replacement Project (CDHRP) Update

Crews are completing slab-on-grade construction of the 4-storey Diagnostic & Treatment Centre (D&T). Suspended concrete slab pours for levels 1 and 2 are ongoing and work on level 3 will begin in October, along with interior and exterior framing for level 1. Clinical and Design teams are working with program user groups to finalize their workspaces via both physical and virtual mock-ups. Slab on grade construction for the 8-storey Inpatient Unit is underway and suspended slab formwork has started. As of September, the majority of foundations for the D&T, Inpatient Unit, Lobby and Service Building are complete. This project marks several firsts in the Province of BC, as the first fully electric hospital, first vertical infrastructure project to be delivered using an Alliance delivery model, and the first capital health project to be delivered under the CBA.
