News & Events National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: Commit to Learn, Reflect, and Act | September 30

September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

Today, we honour Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities, and remember the children who never returned home.

At our recent AGM & Conference, we were reminded of the importance of listening, learning and taking meaningful action toward reconciliation. For B.C.’s construction industry, that includes continuing to build understanding, strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities and support meaningful Indigenous participation and opportunities within our industry.

We encourage our members and industry partners to take time to learn, reflect and engage with Indigenous-led resources and initiatives:

• Learn about the history and legacy of residential schools: Explore resources from UBC’s Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

• Learn about Orange Shirt Day and Every Child Matters: Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led commemorative day that raises awareness of the intergenerational impacts of residential schools.

• Participate locally: Attend a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event or learning opportunity in your community.

Reconciliation requires more than reflection on one day. It requires continued learning, listening and action.

Together, let’s commit to learning, reflection, and action—not only on September 30th but every day as we strive for a just and equitable society.
