News & Events National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: Commit to Learn, Reflect, and Act | September 30
September 30th is recognized as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. This important day calls us to collectively reflect on and learn from the historical injustices faced by Indigenous peoples in Canada. As members of the CLR BC community, we are encouraged to engage deeply with this day—not just as observers but as active participants in the journey towards reconciliation.
We invite you to explore a range of educational resources that will help deepen our understanding of the commemorative day to promote “Every Child Matters”, and the historical and ongoing impacts of colonialism on Indigenous communities. Engaging with these materials can transform our awareness into meaningful action:
- What is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: Discover the origins and significance of Orange Shirt Day through resources provided by UBC’s Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre. For more detailed information and to get involved, please visit the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation page.
- Historical Context: Learn about the painful legacy of residential schools through the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre and the Legacy of Hope Foundation
Participate in local events across B.C. to honour this day, and engage in conversations with friends, family, and colleagues about your learnings and reflections. Your active participation helps pave the way for true reconciliation.
Together, let’s commit to learning, reflection, and action—not only on September 30th but every day as we strive for a just and equitable society.
