News & Events B.C. Introduces Prompt Payment Legislation with Support from CLR and Industry Partners
The provincial government has introduced Prompt Payment legislation, a long-awaited and important step that follows years of advocacy across British Columbia’s construction industry. CLR has been working with industry partners, including the BC Construction Association (BCCA), to support this legislation and ensure it serves our members effectively.
Why this matters
Payment certainty: Prompt Payment legislation will improve the flow of payments on construction projects, helping to ensure money moves more quickly and fairly through the construction supply chain.
Implementation phase: This is the beginning of a new system for payment certainty in British Columbia’s construction industry. The legislation establishes a foundation, but the details will be defined through supporting regulations and the establishment of an adjudication framework.
Ongoing collaboration: The BC Construction Association (BCCA) and its partners, including CLR, will continue to work together to monitor next steps, provide industry education, and support members as the legislation is implemented across the province.
CLR will continue to work with BCCA and other industry partners to advocate for fair, practical implementation of this legislation. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available. Members are encouraged to share questions or regional perspectives with CLR so we can continue to represent your interests as this process develops.
